Your Words

This is about a boy. Shocker.

You talk in poem, your words they dance,

Filled with promises of rich romance,

I laugh and smile, but you meanwhile

Collect our broken hearts.

They’re on a shelf, count one by one,

How many hearts have you undone?

Nine or eight, oh I just hate

How deceived we all have been.

You help us when we’re weak and lost,

Our hearts are sad, but you have tossed

A light our way and so we say

I’m nothing without you.

We grab your empty words, so tight

Never wondering if our talk is right,

But it crosses a line, can’t say “you’re mine”

When your heart is not your own.

Won’t you stop now and think of her,

You should back off and stop the lure,

Turn off the charm, you only harm

Our hearts to satisfy yours.

So turn your back and fix yourself,

I know in you is immeasurable wealth,

Be true to you, and if you do

It’ll be worth it in the end.

Goodbye for now, I wish you well,

In the future maybe you can tell

A story of me, who helped you see

There’s a truer life to live.
